Seamless tooth restoration
A dental crown is a protective “cap” placed over a tooth that has been broken, treated with a root canal, stained, weakened by decay, or is naturally misshapen. Each crown is carefully crafted and custom-fitted to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth, providing both strength and a natural look. With proper care, crowns can last more than 15 years. They may also be used to support a dental bridge, restore a dental implant, or make cosmetic improvements to enhance the overall appearance of your smile.
The process of getting a dental crown
A dental crown typically requires two visits and is completed with careful planning to restore strength, function, and appearance to your tooth. At Shelburne Village Dental, Dr. Faisal Waseem ensures each crown is designed and placed with precision so it blends seamlessly with your natural smile.
Here is how we go about it:
Examining and preparing the tooth
The process begins with a thorough dental examination. Your dentist will assess the tooth, clean the area, and prepare it for the crown. If the tooth is broken or damaged by decay, the weakened areas are removed so the crown can fully protect it and prevent further complications.
Shaping the crown
An impression of your teeth is then taken, which is used to create a custom crown that matches your bite and natural tooth shape. While your permanent crown is being made, a temporary crown is placed to protect your tooth. If you are replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant, impressions are also taken of the implant and surrounding teeth so your crown can be precisely fitted.
Placing the crown
At your second visit, the temporary crown is removed and your permanent crown is carefully secured using strong dental cement or a small hidden screw. Finally, the crown is polished and adjusted to ensure it looks natural, feels comfortable, and restores full function to your smile.

During this visit, we will carefully examine your teeth, gums, soft tissues, and the overall function of your bite. Our goal is to understand how your entire mouth looks and works together. Before creating a treatment plan, we take the time to learn about both the health and appearance of your smile, and most importantly, your personal goals so we can design the right care to help you achieve them.
